A clear explanation of how this version saves your practice portfolio.
What is stored
The simulator saves your selected market scenario, virtual cash, holdings, prices, monthly results, insights and transaction history in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is not sent to a FinSmart Lab database.
Progress does not sync between devices or browsers. If browser storage is unavailable, the simulator still works, but progress lasts only for the current visit.
Starting again
Reset simulation restores the starting portfolio and replaces the saved progress. Clearing this website's browser data removes it entirely.
Ranked challenge results
If you start a ranked challenge, your browser creates a random participant ID (no name or email) and stores it in local storage. Our server records that ID, the chosen market, and the time you started, so each browser gets one ranked attempt per market. When you submit, we store the display name you choose, your list of trades and the result our server calculates from them. Display names, final values, profits and returns are shown publicly on the leaderboards.
Student reviews
If you post a review, we store the display name, city, country, star rating and text you enter, plus the date. These are publicly visible. We never collect your precise location. A private removal code is saved in your browser so you can delete your own review later.
Spam protection
To limit spam and repeated attempts, we keep a one-way, daily-changing hash of your network address alongside reviews and ranked attempts. The address itself is not stored.
Where this data lives
Leaderboard and review data is stored in a database provided by Lovable Cloud, the service that hosts this website. It is not sold or shared for advertising. Entries may be hidden or removed if they contain spam, abuse or personal information.
What is not collected
FinSmart Lab has no accounts, sign-ups, newsletter, payments, advertising or analytics scripts. We do not ask for email addresses or real names. Because many visitors are students, please do not include personal details in display names or reviews.
Hosting
The website is hosted by Lovable. Like most web hosts, the hosting provider may process standard technical information, such as IP addresses, when serving pages. That processing is separate from the simulator's browser storage.
Fictional investments
Every company, fund, price, market scenario and the FinSmart Market Index in the simulator are fictional. They do not represent real securities or real market data.
